Grace Cottage

Abel Smith Street, Wellington, NZ

2006

Restored heritage cottage veranda with native planting in-front

Originally built for a seaman in the mid 1860s and named after his wife - Grace, this three bedroom historic cottage is one of the oldest in Wellington. After years of neglect, extensive restoration has returned this house to its former glory, whilst equipping it for modern living. The bathroom and kitchen have been relocated and the original north facing lean-to rebuilt with large areas of glazing to the north and west as well as a strip of roof glazing to make best use of the sun and garden. The project was completed late 2006 and featured in the Dominion Post in February 2008.
